My kitty needs a new home.
True confession: I am no longer a good cat mom – I travel too much. When I took in Miss Mitzi, my dainty gray tabby cat, six years ago, I did not anticipate that my son and his family would move to Singapore. Nor did I anticipate that the love of my life would emerge 500 miles away. Who said, “Life is what happens when you are making other plans?”
In 2018, I decided I needed a furry companion to snuggle me through New Hampshire winters. My friend Nancy tracked down a friend’s daughter nearby whose two cats did not get along. The well-meaning family thought their darling needed a friend and adopted Mitzi – though her SPCA bio specified that she preferred to be alone, that she did not tolerate other pets or children. Yes. Mitzi is a diva.
During my many absences – Covid lockdown in Baltimore, Singapore twice, Turkey, the Bahamas, - my Kitty Care Team composed of three cat ladies and my adult granddaughter came by daily to feed, play with, and groom Mitzi. My granddaughter even stayed over. But In addition to visiting family, I’m also spending more time with Mr. Wonderful. He has invited Mitzi to come with me, and, having three cats of his own, hopes she adapts; however, my girl is not one for air travel, feline community, or Mr. Wonderful’s rambunctious little grandsons who live next door. In fact, my Mitzi only allowed my younger granddaughter, 7, to touch her for the first time this summer. She’s ultra cautious with munchkins, insanely devoted to me, and lonely when I travel. Like Greta Garbo, she just wants to be alone-- with one adored owner.
I feel it’s time to find Mitzi a more nurturing home. As of today, the Concord SPCA has 22 cats awaiting adoption. My dainty, 6- lb. love lump is 10 years old – not a top contender for the forever home she deserves. If you wish to be adored by a sweet girl and can offer her a quiet life, please contact me for more information. gailtschilling.author@gmail.com.
Both Mitzi and I thank you. ###
